750 Million People
around the world suffer from vision loss due to uncorrected refractive errors.
We want to change that.
We are a team of engineers, scientists, and problem solvers working to address the global vision crisis. Over 750 million people worldwide suffer from uncorrected refractive errors which can result in impaired vision, difficulties learning, working and functioning even blindness. This equate to hundreds of billions of dollars in lost annual global productivity. We believe that innovation can drive more accessible vision care for everyone. In February of 2015, we launched the world’s first-smartphone based wavefront autorefractor, SVOne, to combat this global challenge. To date, the SVOne is used in over 300 eye clinics across the United States and in 23 countries. Today, the team continues to create industry-changing technology to reinvent the future of vision care.

Josef joined Smart Vision Labs in July of 2016 and serves as the company’s first CMO. He loves a good marketing challenge as much as he enjoys road biking and teaching himself the saxophone. In his 20 plus years of marketing he helped disrupt the education industry and has been called an “original growth hacker.” His early teachers will confirm he is an excellent disrupter and a perfect fit for a company disrupting the vision care industry. He is a born and bred New Yorker and earned his BA in Communications and Media from Queens College but hasn’t stopped learning thanks to MOOCS and online education.
Katie, originally from the UK, joined Smart Vision Labs with 7 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing. She currently oversees quality assurance and regulatory affairs. She has a masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Manchester and has a passion for data, she too has a love for MOOCS and online learning. In her free time you can find her lindy hop dancing at NYC’s jazz venues or on local hiking trails.
Kaccie grew up in Shelton, WA but left town to pick up a couple degrees from Rochester and a PhD from Berkeley. Dr. Li joined Smart Vision Labs in April 2015 as Principal Scientist after stints at Abbott Medical Optics and Brien Holden Vision, and as of early 2017 he became the company’s first Chief Scientist. He brings deep knowledge in wavefront estimation/control and low-cost optics manufacturing. More importantly, he’s one of the few Asian-American Dutch speakers in the world and can (almost) snatch a 32-kg kettlebell.
